Help in a crisis

If you are injured, or feel that you cannot keep yourself safe, and you need emergency assistance you should go to the accident and emergency department of your nearest hospital. You can find your nearest hospital here. If you cannot get there quickly enough then you should dial emergency services, 999, and ask for help. If someone you know is hurt or in danger of hurting themselves, take them to hospital or ring emergency services, 999, for help.

The nearest local hospital accident and emergency unit to The University of Manchester is Manchester Royal Infirmary. The unit provides emergency help for injuries from accidents or for urgent medical or mental health needs. Manchester Royal Infirmary: 999 or 0161 276 1234

When you need to talk

If you are feeling suicidal or very low, and you need to talk to someone out of hours, you can ring any of the following services:

Greater Manchester Nightline: Nightline is a confidential listening and information service run by students for students. It is open 8pm till 8am every night during term time. The phone number can be found on the reverse of your student ID card.

If you have problems in finding or using the number, email manchesternl@hotmail.com from any of the Manchester universities' student email addresses and it will auto-respond with the Greater Manchester Nightline phone number.

The Samaritans: freephone 116 123 or 0161 236 8000 charged at local rate. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to talk confidentially about any problem, however big or small

If you are feeling suicidal or very low, and you want to talk to someone face to face, you can go to:

The Sanctuary: 0300 003 7029 This service is run by the mental health charity Self Help Services and is based at the Kath Locke Centre on Moss Lane East, in Hulme. It offers a safe and quiet place to people in crisis at night-time. The Sanctuary helpline telephone number is 0300 003 7029 and is open from 8pm - 6am.

Crisis Point offers a resolution service available from 8am to 7pm, providing immediate or at least same-day one-to-one help for people in crisis.
